MODEL TRAIN AIRPLANE SIMULATION

THIS PRODUCT IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE. THANKS FOR YOUR INTEREST.

Model train guys are always looking for something new and different.  The Model Train Airplane Simulation (MTAS) allows an airplane (with sounds) to fly over a train layout.

The MTAS makes use of a guy wire.  A guy wire is a vinyl coated steel wire.  The guy wire gets fastened from one wall to another wall with your layout several feet below.  The MTAS uses a motorized assembly that your airplane hangs from while traveling along the guy wire.

The assembly runs on rechargeable batteries and is controlled with a Sony TV remote.  You can control the speed, direction and sounds.  The batteries (3) are found on ebay and are rechargeable type CR123. The guy wire has a beginning and an end: the two places where it is attached to the walls.  When the moving plane gets to the wall (where the guy wire is attached) a sensor gets tripped and the plane stops moving.  The plane then rotates 180 degrees and reverses direction on the guy wire.  It then resumes speed and travels in the opposite direction.

The Sony remote is nice if your plane is out of your reach.  It might be flying at a height of 8 feet or more.

The MTAS assembly uses two motors.  The first moves the plane along the guy wire.  The second rotates the plane.

The MTAS system can use different scale planes.  One HO scale (1:87) plane has a size of 4.3 inches long and a 4.8 inch wingspan.  O scale (1:48) airplanes might be better to use since they are larger but it really depends on the installation.  In a large room with high ceilings the O scale plane will be seen better.  In a smaller room an HO scale plane will work, especially if you have an HO layout.  The only space requirement in the plane is for the propeller motor which is about the size of an eraser on a #2 pencil (about 3/4" long).

There are many airplane models available on ebay, made by NewRay, K-Line and InAir.  Although these models are described as kits, they are already painted and will snap together in about 15 minutes.

You can even use one of your own model airplanes.  You will need to find the center of gravity of the airplane and then mount two small eyelets (included) on the top of the plane body.  This is how the plane attaches to the MTAS motor assembly.  Detailed instructions are provided on how to do everything.  Using eyelets to hold the planes allows planes to be easily swapped.

What sort of planes can you fly?  Bi-planes from WWI are fun.  Modern day planes such as the F-18 Hornet are good too.  Someone at the train club I belong to wants to fly a Goodyear Blimp.  Ask us about the propeller unit and motor that we found on ebay that can be mounted in the Biplane.

We added a picture of a P51 Mustang hanging on the MTAS assembly.  You can see the pulleys and both motors. We plan to have a video available soon.

Sounds are also present.  As the plane flies back and forth a motor sound is continually heard.  Sounds are supplied that will suit both propeller and jet planes.   There is a small speaker mounted on the moving assembly.

NOTE - THIS AIRPLANE KIT IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR CHILDREN YOUNGER THAN 12 YEARS OF AGE.  THIS IS NOT A TOY.  IT CONTAINS SMALL PARTS.  IT IS INTENDED FOR THE MODEL TRAIN ENTHUSIAST.

The MTAS mechanism weighs about a pound and this should be considered in determining the length of the guy wire.  A 40-foot guy wire would be acceptable.  Longer guy wires may sag.  Of course the guy wire can be tightened with turnbuckles to reduce the sag.  Guy wire (vinyl coated steel wire) is sold on ebay.

Included items:

Everything is included for you to create a flying airplane simulation for your model train layout.  You must supply the airplane(s), guy wire, hooks and turnbuckles.  1/4 inch hardware will work.

The cost of the Model Train Airplane Simulation (MTAS) is $125 plus $12 shipping.

Please allow two weeks for us to assemble and deliver your MTAS system.

FOR A LIMITED TIME - INCLUDED IN THE PACKAGE IS A 1:48 SCALE WWII PROPELLER TYPE AIRPLANE WITH SOUNDS.  THE PLANE HAS A BATTERY POWERED PROPELLER MOTOR.  THE SOUNDS ARE PLAYED THROUGH A SMALL SPEAKER.
